How to sew a gorgeous reversible top for an 18 inch doll

Image
This doll's completely reversible top is easy to make but a little bit fiddly. However it is worth persevering with it as the end result is superb. I do not like raw edges, so worked out a way to have neat finishes with no raw edges at all.   Materials needed:  2 fat quarters. (will also do the skirt) Cotton or polycotton fabrics Velcro, press studs or snaps for fastening. I have used velcro, as I find that it is easier for little ones to dress their dolls.  How to:  Use 1/4 inch seam allowance throughout. For each step, backstitch at the beginning and end to ensure the stitches stay put. (vital for the many turnings needed to complete the top) 1. Download and cut the pattern. Then cut the fabric. Cut one front (cut on the fold) and two backs, once from the main fabric, and again from the reverse/lining fabric.  2. Pin at the shoulders. Then sew. Do that for both fabrics. 3. Place the 2 fabrics together, right sides facing. Match the seams. Pin around the neck. Sew.  4. Do the same

Making a glass case using an A4 sheet of paper to make a template.

How to make a glass case using an A4 sheet of paper to make a template.  Actually it can be used for anything - pencils, pens, make up etc.  Very quick, very easy, but looks super cute and would make a great gift. Use character or special fabrics, or make them plain with embroidery etc. These are so quick to make. They take just a few minutes to complete. Materials : Make the pattern. Start with a piece of A4 cardstock (paper will do, if no card available) Fold in two lengthwise. Then round off the corner at one end.  Open the pattern and measure 3.25 inches from the bottom and draw a line across, or place markers. From that line measure 6 inches and draw another line.  Use the template to cut the fabric. Cut the same in fusible fleece, and fuse to main fabric.  Also cut a piece of lining fabric, same width as the main fabric and 7 inches high.  Place the main fabric over the template and fold the fabric at the 3.25 inch mark. Then overstitch close to the edge. First fold made.  Take
