A triple layered face mask, including a space for a filter, with a space for a nose bridge

Great, easy to make and personalise, and above all comfortable to wear.

These masks come in 5 sizes. I have labelled them 1 - 5, with 1 and 2 on a different blog. Sizes 1 and 2 masks are for toddlers and children.

Sizes 3 - 5 are for young adults/teens, adults and larger adults. All the instructions and patterns are included. There will also be video links to show how they are made.

Materials needed: Cotton/polycotton fabric for all pieces. 2 lengths of elastic, approximately 7 inches each.

1.  Choose the size you need. Download the patterns, which are at the end of this blog, and cut out the pieces. Two for the front, two for the lining and two for the pocket. To cut the pocket, fold the pattern along the dotted line and cut, to get a narrower version of the pieces. (Oops, my well used pattern has all sorts of pen marks on)

2. Sew all pieces along the centre, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

3. Turn over the sides of the shorter piece, using a 1/4 inch allowance, press then turn again and oversew.

4. Place all the pieces together and pin. First place the front and pocket together, right sides facing. pin to ensure that the pocket remains in place. Next place the lining over the pocket, wrong side facing uppermost. Pin all around, leaving a 2 inch gap on one side to turn the mask the right way round.

5. Sew using a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

6. Trim the excess and turn.

7. Fold over the sides around 1/2 inch and sew close to the edge to form a channel for the elastic to go through.

8.  Press the top and bottom to get a neat edge, or use pins to straighten and oversew around 1/8 inch along the top and bottom. I use bigger pins at the start of the channels to remind me not to sew across the elastic/cord channel. Back stitch at the beginning and end.

9. At the top, measure a 2 and 1/4 inch gap from the centre and place a pin on each side. Sew a 1/2 inch seam between the pins to make a channel for the nose strip. Backstitch at the start and at the end.

10. Cut off all loose threads.

11. Thread the elastic through the sides and a nose strip along the top.

Your mask is finished.
